7:14 PRAYER TWENTY-TWO

Father God, Edom thought it was beyond Your reach, but You said, "The pride of your heart has deceived you, you who live in the clefts of the rocks and make your home on the heights, you who say to yourself, 'Who can bring me down to the ground?' Though you soar like the eagle and make your nest among the stars, from there I will bring you down, declares the Lord." (Obadiah 3-4)

When David attacked Jerusalem, the inhabitants of the city were overly confident that they were beyond conquest. They were so sure of themselves that they yelled down to David, "You will not get in here; even the blind and the lame can ward you off." (2 Samuel 5:6) Little did they know that David's men would find a tunnel that led into the city. They followed it in and conquered the city.

America is overly confident in her money, military, and intelligence to find solutions to all her problems. But the problems that we have are not of a physical nature that can be solved with pencil and paper. Our problems are of a spiritual nature that only can be solved by repentance and submission to the authority of Jesus.

America's problems are like those other nations that have bit the dust. Their downfall was that they believed their own press, that they were invincible. Leaders stopped caring about the populace and began lining their own pockets, thus the gap between the rich and the poor widened. It was more enjoyable to follow the religions that gratified their sinful nature. Sex outside of marriage became common and was considered normal.

The moral climate of America will be its downfall before God unless there is a massive revival in which millions turn to Jesus Christ and glorify God. Open our eyes and hearts, Lord.
